HISTORY

The heart-warming tale of a young man whose passion for Africa and its untamed nature led him on an extraordinary journey. This remarkable individual, none other than my father, Hermann Sachse. In 1946, my father acquired the farm from the British Queen, a pivotal moment in Sachsenheim's history.  With nothing but his own hands and an indomitable spirit, he undertook the daunting task of building a home akin to that of the Bushmen, cultivating sustenance, and excavating a 60-meter borehole. These initial years were marked by isolation, scarcity of resources, and the constant threat of predators, including lions, leopards, and hyenas.

In the face of these daunting challenges, he persevered, christening the farm "Sachsenheim," which translates to "Home of the Sachse family." At the end of arduous days, he would find solace by the waterhole, serenading the wild animals with his accordion while admiring the picturesque sunsets. The peace and connection he discovered in nature were priceless, beyond the reach of any material wealth.

In 1956, fate intervened as he came across a photograph of a young lady from the neighboring region. This same lady, Elfriede Maria Pick, would become my mother and make the bold decision to leave her homeland, Germany, to embark on a life in the Namibian bush. This transition marked a primitive form of existence, and Elfriede's dedication was nothing short of extraordinary. She immersed herself in the ways of the Bushmen, playing a pivotal role in the development of Sachsenheim.

Elfriede not only adapted to this demanding lifestyle but also raised five children while winning the hearts of the community, earning the title of the "Queen of the district" due to her remarkable kindness and boundless compassion. She played a vital role in shaping the legacy of Sachsenheim, standing as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Sachse family.

In 1987, four years after my mother's passing, my father decided to sell the farm. It was then that I, filled with a deep commitment to continue our family's legacy and passion for nature, took a significant step. With the support of Agri-bank, I repurchased Sachsenheim and dedicated myself to fulfilling my mother's dream. Over the course of 25 years, we transformed Sachsenheim into a place that not only celebrates our love for nature but also offers hospitality to visitors from around the world.

We are immensely grateful to all of you who have been a part of this dream and shown your support. Your presence at Sachsenheim is a testament to our shared journey, and we wholeheartedly wish you a memorable and enjoyable stay. In the words of my father, "You come as a guest and leave as a friend." Sachsenheim is a sanctuary in the heart of Namibia, where nature, history, and friendship intersect in the most beautiful way.
